“Community means strength that joins our strength to do the work that needs to be done. Arms to hold when we falter. A circle of healing. A circle of friends. Someplace where we can be free.” – Starhawk
The last month at ESP has been one filled with the utmost definition of community. A month where we took over 30 families to Family Camp at a fully accessible beach in Florida; held an inaugural pinning ceremony to celebrate the incredible accomplishments of our participants from ESP 360, our afterschool program; recognized the incredible work of our 35+ interns; and so much more. It was a month that reminded us that ESP is not a program or service, but a community and a way of life:
“I know I’ve said it before, but I can’t even express how grateful I am that I live close to such awesome of place, ESP. I’ve made so many awesome friends and it has literally changed my [ESP participant’s] life. During the time that he has been going to ESP, he has become so much happier, confident, and is doing things that I never thought possible. We do not have a large family who truly ‘gets’ us. This place just oozes love and acceptance. The staff is not there for a paycheck. They are there because they love our kids and want to help create an environment where they can thrive.
My child went from a new ESPer that had no social skills or confidence, to a child that just lights up every time we go there. And me? I’ve gained so many friends who share the same struggles as I have, raising a child with a disability. And I don’t feel so isolated anymore. It has definitely been a win for both of us.” – Caretaker of an ESP participant
We cannot express enough gratitude to you for not just being part of our community, but for creating this community for the many lives touched by ESP. Thank you for joining your strength with ours to create a home for the families and participants who absolutely deserve it most.
